The people at PaperTecture.Org seem to have a heart. Their website is all about free paper kits for download, but is focused mainly on paper buildings for model railroad layouts and dioramas. But this month they’re offering something new: a Valentine’s Heart Kit. They’ve trundled this new kit out just in time for Valentine’s Day (duh) – a marketing ploy if ever there was one. The kit, however, is pretty nice. It consists of just two pieces – the front and back of a little heart. You download the free kit to your computer, print studio white diamond headphone it out on your color printer, cut it out, assemble it, and, bang-o, you’ve got a nifty little 3D heart. It will take you about fifteen minutes to build the kit. You cut out the back side of the heart – a pair of scissors is all you need. With that cut out you score the edge of the little flaps that surround the heart, bend the little tabs in, and set it aside. Next you cut out the other heart, the front side, and score and bend the tabs. Then you apply glue to the back side tabs and press them inside the front side. It took us a little while of going around and around the edges of the heart to black/yellow pro headphone glue all the tabs down, but the finished product was quite charming. We used 80# card stock to make ours – a lighter paper won’t make as strong of a finished heart. The completed Valentine’s Heart kit is 3D, being about three inches tall, the same dimension wide, and about a quarter of an inch thick. You could insert a little hook between the upper lobes of the heart to attach a chain so that your sweetie could wear it as a necklace or hang it over the rearview mirror of the Maserati. You could also glue the flaps on just one side of the heart, making it like a little treasure box. Stash a picture of sweetie in there, or maybe a little poem, a little chocolate heart or something, and you will rule the day. Best of all, there are no extra markings on the heart, like a copyright notice – the thing looks like you made it yourself. Not only will you score points for producing something that’s handmade, it looks like you created it yourself! You can download for your Valentine’s Heart free paper Studio limited edition green headphone kit at Papertecture.Org.
