4-Jan-2012 - 85% The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Visted 1 times

Grade: A(95%) I have always been a fan of David Fincher's work from his his directional debut of "Aliens 3" to his Best Picture nominated "The Social Network". nfl jerseys supply I especially love his mystery/serial killer films called "Seven" and "The Zodiac". I love his atmosphere in each of these mystery films that keeps the viewer on edge throughout the film's runtime and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is no exception. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy this film, it is one of David Fincher's best films. The film follows Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), an investigative journalist, comes out of a court case after falsely accusing a billionaire industrialist. This hiccup allows Henrik Vanger, after studying his political and personal life, to bring Mikael to his home to find a family member who he believes murdered his daughter 36 years earlier. By using his investigative skills, Mikael tries to sort through the big family tree and try to find the alleged killer of this girl. The film also follows Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) who is a surveillance agent. She is brought into her place of employment to deliver a packet of Mikael Blomkvist's life that Henrik's lawyer asked for. Lisbeth, while very good at her job, isn't like the other employees that she walks by. Whether it is the outrageous hair-due or the piercings, Lisbeth doesn't fit into the office life. She has also had a rough life when she is declared incompetent as a child and is forced to have a legal guardian. After a stroke, she is forced to ask another guardian for money who sexually abuses her. These two protagonists nfl jersey supply don't come together until an hour or so into the movie. When they do work together, it is fun to watch Mikael's reaction to Lisbeth's work ethic. Whether it is hacking into his computer or her capability to unencrypted documents, Mikael has to deal with it. As they continue to work together, they begin to trust each other a lot more and even fall in love. The film is long as the runtime is about 2 hours and 40 minutes. However, it never feels that long; in fact, it seems like a two hour movie. I never had the feeling that this film was boring or extended too much because the story always brings new twists and turns into each scenario. But while the film isn't boring, there are some instances of brutal violence including a graphic rape scene between Lisbeth and her new guardian. Knowing David Fincher's work, I sort of figures that the rape scene would be graphic but I still cringed and felt uncomfortable in my seat. It was that intense. Even the revenge rape scene was somewhat unbearable to watch even if not that graphic. The film is also backed up by strong performances by Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. Daniel Craig uses nhl jerseys from china the James Bond type look when investigating the family but never goes over the top when he is supposed to be playing a journalist. Rooney Mara is fully fleshed out as Lisbeth Salander. I have to give her credit since she had to do a lot of things in this film that was intense. The new look to play Lisbeth was impressive enough but some of the scenes were dark and creepy (the rape scenes and other instances) and she pulled them off perfectly. She really played the part. "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is a great mystery film. While it is brutal, it is absolutely entertaining. While there may be one too many sex scenes and the rape scenes are uncomfortable to watch, the film works tremendously. David Fincher wins again in the serial killer genre and I can't wait for the other two films in this international best-selling trilogy of Lisbeth Salander and her dragon tattoo. December 31, 2011
