Dating sites can be a wealth of information for those looking for that special someone. The looking part is being studied by Tobii to determine what men and women spend their time looking at on dating profiles. Tobii, makers of fine eye-tracking software, decided to test their software by collaborating with AnswerLab to find out what people looked at on dating sites. They found their samples at a San Francisco coffee shop and asked them to participate in a study that would have them looking at dating profiles of the opposite sex according to All Things D. Women spent an average of 84 seconds looking at a profile to find out if the profile was to their liking, compared to 58 seconds for men. They hope in the future to be able to pinpoint exactly where on a picture a person's eye is staring at. The study found that when there was a lot of ad content on the right side of the page, users would become distracted from the current task they were doing. The actual test itself this time was also very small with only 40 people participating. They will be able to gain more conclusive evidence as they get more people and refine their technology.
